DISCIPLESHIP

May the blessings of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ be upon you, even as you have been led by the Spirit of the Living God to log-in to our web-site. May the Almighty God give you a heart of understanding, so that you can grasp the vital revelational truth in this piece of information you are about to discover in Jesus Name Amen!

Now! What is DISCIPLESHIP? It is a word that came out of the word DISCIPLE, and the Greek word for disciple is ‘mathetes’ which means ‘one who learns instructions from another’. It was used in the secular Greek  world for an apprentice to a tradesman. A disciple was not only a pupil but an adherent, hence they were spoken of as imitators of their teachers.

Every Christian is called to be a disciple of Jesus and this means they will follow Jesus and put the claims of Jesus first in their lives, regardless of the cost to themselves. So a Christian disciple is a person who is determined to follow Jesus Christ, with the desire to learn from Him and live according to His example.

According to the above-mention definition of discipleship, it is so clear that about 90% of today’s “Christians” are not disciples, and whoever does not qualify to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, is automatically not a Christian, because the name CHRISTIAN was first giving to the disciples, when those around them saw how dedicated and committed they were to their master(Jesus) and also their effort to imitate no other person than Him(Jesus) alone. Our churches today has become entertainment centres like Hollywood, money-making ventures like Wall street and modelling centres like any fashion fair centres we can think of.

Today’s ‘Christians’ do not care about those around them who are seriously perishing in their sins and also they do not care about what Jesus specifically employed them to do, that is to avail themselves as vessels of honour for the Master’s own use, truly the bible says that “For in the last days men(so-called-Christians) shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: FROM SUCH TURN AWAY” (2nd Tim.3:1-5 KJV)

It is very easy for ‘Christians’ of today to proclaim the BAD NEWS of the devil rather than the GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ. Christians of today are fond of talking negatively about their pastors and every member of the church even to the outside world, and also about the things that are happening in this world, but when it comes to witnessing and proclaiming the good news to this same world, they are found wanting. I personally will like to blame most pastors and the so-called prophets for the kind of messages they have been preaching to their members which I believe is the cause of their deviation from the line of discipleship, for the basic rule is to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you.(Matt.6:33) but most preachers are rather teaching their members to seek the all things first, which has really caused most Christians to be covetous, greedy and selfish and this kind of negative attitude is seriously affecting our Christianity and therefore the light of the church is really not shining upon men that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven.

I therefore want to take this opportunity to plead with well-meaning pastors who are genuinely called by God Most High to take a second look at their messages and set their priorities right by training their members to become the true disciples that Jesus want them to be. May the Lord God richly bless you and give you the strength to deny yourselves and carry your cross and follow Him in the mighty Name of Jesus Amen and Amen!
